Full Surrey A3 Diversion Routes as Major Road Set for Weekend Closure
Drivers should prepare for a 57-hour closure of the A3 this weekend for bridge installation
Surrey, A3, Closure, Diversions, Cockcrow Bridge, Wisley Interchange
Surrey: This weekend, the A3 is closing for a bit, so drivers need to plan ahead. The closure starts at 9 PM on Friday, January 17, and runs until 6 AM on Monday, January 20. It’s all to install the Cockcrow bridge, which is a pretty big deal as it’s the UK’s first heathland bridge.
This closure is part of a larger £317 million project at the Wisley interchange, which is set to wrap up this year. The Cockcrow bridge is one of the last big pieces of the puzzle.
Once it’s done, this bridge will connect Ockham and Wisley Commons for the first time since the A3 was built back in the late 1970s. The area is home to some rare habitats, and this project aims to improve the environment and restore the heathland.
With the road closed, drivers will have to follow some diversions depending on where they’re headed. Here’s the scoop:
For southbound A3 main diversion: Take the eastbound M25 to junction 9, then follow A243, A246, A247 to get back on the southbound A3.
For southbound A3 non-motorway diversion: Go northbound A3, then A245, A307, A309, A243, A246, A247 to rejoin the southbound A3.
For northbound A3 main diversion: Use B2215, A247, A246, A24, A243, then join the M25 at junction 9 and get back on the northbound A3 at junction 10.
For northbound A3 non-motorway diversion: Follow B2215, A247, A246, A24, A243, A307, A245 to rejoin the northbound A3 at Painshill junction.
For Wisley Lane diversion (both ways): Use Portsmouth Road (B2215), then Newark Lane (B367), Warren Lane, Pyford Road, Lock Lane to get back to Wisley Lane.
For Guileshill Lane diversion: RHS Wisley will stay open. You can access the gardens via Portsmouth Road (B2215) or Ockham Road (B2039) to Ockham Park roundabout and then Wisley Lane. Just a heads up, there’s no access to the Garden via Pyrford Lock.
