Full Surrey A3 Closure Next Weekend Near M25 as Warning Issued to Drivers

Surrey: So, here’s the scoop. The A3 is going to be closed for a whole weekend at the end of January. National Highways is doing some work at the Wisley Interchange, and it’s a big deal because they’re putting in a heathland bridge, the first of its kind in the UK.

During this closure, there will be a diversion route for drivers. They need to get Cockcrow Bridge up, so the A3 will be shut down south of the M25 in both directions. This affects the stretch between junction 10 and Send B2215, plus the A247.

Now, this project at junction 10 of the M25 is a three-year gig, and they expect it to wrap up by summer 2025. It’s going to cost around £317 million, but the goal is to ease congestion, improve traffic flow, and make journeys safer.

The new heathland bridge will be 30 meters wide and will help wildlife cross over. It’s great news for all sorts of critters, like birds, toads, and even sand lizards. They’ll have a safe way to move between the commons.

The A3 closure kicks off at 9 PM on Friday, January 17, and will last until 6 AM on Monday, January 20. Drivers can follow the yellow signs that National Highways will set up for the detours.

If you’re heading south, the diversion will take you through Cobham, Chessington, Great Bookham, and Effingham, letting you rejoin the A3 at Send. For those going north, you’ll go via East Clandon, Effingham, Fetcham, and then hop onto the M25 towards Wisley.
