Flint: The cold snap is really making waves across Wales. On Wednesday, January 8, a bunch of schools decided to close up shop for the day. This comes after some serious winter warnings and an ice alert that’s supposed to wrap up by midday.

Jason Kelly, the chief forecaster at the Met Office, had a heads-up for everyone. He mentioned that the chilly weather isn’t going anywhere this week. There are quite a few severe weather warnings out for wintry hazards. Snow showers are still falling in places like Scotland, Northern Ireland, and even parts of northern Wales and England.

He also pointed out that where the water and snow freeze overnight, we could see some ice forming as temperatures drop below freezing. But hey, there’s a silver lining! For those not stuck on the northern coasts, there will be some nice sunny spells, even if it still feels pretty chilly with that northern breeze.

Because of all this wintry weather, several schools in north Wales have decided to close for the day, according to North Wales Live. If you want to keep up with the latest news from Wales, you can sign up for their newsletter.

Here’s the list of schools that are closed:

  • Gwynedd Primary School, Flint
  • St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Flint

  • Ysgol Pen Coch, Flint
  • Ysgol Gwenffrwd, Holywell
  • Nannerch V.C. Primary School, Mold
  • Voluntary Aided Church in Wales Primary School, Trelawnyd

As of 8:40 am today, no other schools have been reported closed by local authorities in north Wales.
