Belfast: The Met Office is predicting a chilly week ahead for Northern Ireland. Temperatures are set to drop significantly as we kick off 2025.
With the cold snap, some areas are eligible for Cold Weather Payments. If you live in certain postcodes, you could get £25 automatically.
This payment is for folks in areas covered by the Katesbridge weather station. No need to apply; if you qualify, the money will just show up.
The Cold Weather Payment scheme runs from November 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. The Department for Communities gets notified when the average temperature dips to zero degrees or below for a week.
So far, Cold Weather Payments have been triggered for postcodes like BT24 to BT26 and BT30 to BT34 from January 4 to January 10, 2025.
Only those living in these areas will receive the £25 payment. You can check if you’re eligible using the Cold Weather Payment checker.
After a cold spell, payments should arrive within 14 working days. They go into the same account as your other benefits and won’t affect them.
You might qualify if you’re receiving Pension Credit, Income Support, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Universal Credit, or Support for Mortgage Interest.
