Bradford: Millions of Brits might face council tax hikes soon. Angela Rayner approved increases for six councils, allowing them to raise taxes above the 5% limit.
These councils can start raising taxes on April 1. Even those that can’t exceed 5% are likely to raise their rates as much as possible.
Bradford will see the highest increase at 10%. Residents in Band D properties will pay an extra £195 annually.
Newham in east London will have a 9% rise, along with Windsor and Maidenhead. Birmingham City Council, Trafford Council, and Somerset Council will increase their rates by 7.5%.
Ms. Rayner explained that these changes are necessary to strengthen council budgets. She emphasized the importance of councils in providing essential services and supporting local economies.
Housing Secretary Rayner stated they aim to invest where needed and work with local leaders for better health and affordable housing.
Local Government Minister Jim McMahon echoed this, saying they want to create a stable funding model. He highlighted the crucial role local leaders play in delivering services that communities depend on.
