Frome’s Street Parties at Risk Due to New Road Closure Fees
Frome residents are encouraged to plan street parties by February 14 to avoid new fees

Frome: The town council is reminding everyone planning a street party in 2025 to set their date by February 14 if they need a road closure.
Due to changes at Somerset Council, there’s now a £200 fee for road closures. But if you let Frome Town Council know by February 14, they can include your event in a main application, which means no fee!
Thanks to the Frome Neighbourhood Network, street parties are on the rise in the area. They’re here to help folks connect with their neighbors and build strong communities.
Mayor Andy Jones, who’s part of the FNN steering group, said, “Frome loves a street party! It’s great to see so many happening, bringing neighbors together. FTC is here to help; you can borrow tables, chairs, and bunting from us, plus get info on running your party or even apply for a small grant for insurance.”
He added, “The £200 fee for road closures was a real worry, but the county council agreed to let us include your parties in one application. So, if you tell FTC your party details by February 14, you won’t have to pay!”
“Just give us the date, time, and location of your party. The rest can wait. So, gather your neighbors and pick a date!”
If you need a road closure, shoot an email to info@frometowncouncil.gov.uk with ‘Street Party’ in the subject line by February 14. Include your party details and a map of the street you want to close. You might need to sort out a risk assessment and insurance later on.
