Boston: A lot of folks flying out of Logan Airport this weekend had to change their plans after that snowstorm hit on Friday.
Rosa Dasilva was pretty upset, saying, “I hope I can go today.” She and her family were trying to get to Colorado to see their kids for Christmas, but their flight got canceled.
Dalton Dasilva chimed in, explaining that Jet Blue said they didn’t have pilots available because of the storm, even though the ground looked clear.
Rosa added that it wasn’t just them; there were tons of people stuck in line for almost three hours. Some might not even make it home for Christmas, and they were offered a flight on Christmas Eve instead.
So, they decided to book a new flight for Sunday, which cost them nearly $2,800 just for one way. Dalton said it was worth it to be with their sons.
Massport mentioned that the storm brought more snow than they expected, leading to a lot of delays and cancellations.
On Friday alone, 188 flights were canceled at Logan, which is a huge deal on one of the busiest travel days of the year.
Maddi Gonte was on a delayed flight to Michigan. She said they boarded around midnight but then sat at the gate for another hour and a half.
Michael Pogoda, another traveler, expressed his frustration about the de-icing process taking so long. He wished they could have planned better, but hey, weather is unpredictable.
By Sunday, flights were running more smoothly, but the airport was still packed with travelers eager to reach their destinations before Christmas.
Pogoda noted that it seems like a holiday stereotype that travel chaos happens this time of year.
Massport advised everyone traveling this holiday season to be patient and to check with their airlines for any updates on delays or changes.
