Bristol: Exciting news for students! There are fresh plans to build over 500 student beds in an industrial area. The city council has received new proposals for the Premier Business Park site, which were scaled back after previous plans for 705 beds were rejected.

The council had concerns about students living in an industrial zone and the loss of commercial land. Local businesses were not on board either, especially since the project would have affected the famous Invisible Circus.

The new plan is a bit different. It still offers student accommodation but also doubles the employment space. However, it seems the circus will still need to move, and the supermarket idea has been scrapped, which some residents were looking forward to.

This development, named New Henry Yard, will replace old buildings with a community hub at Kingsland Road and Sussex Street. It will feature cluster units, townhouses, studio flats, and even a community garden, café, cinema room, and gym.

The developers, Dominus, are excited about transforming the area into a lively neighborhood. They want to create flexible workspaces to support local businesses and improve the landscape, including a new pedestrian crossing and cycle connections.

Originally, they planned to have light industrial spaces on the ground floor, but now they’re focusing on a new commercial building along Alfred Street. This change aims to provide more jobs and increase the commercial space available.

The council will decide on these plans soon, but there’s no date set yet. It’s a big step for Bristol, and many are eager to see how it unfolds!
