Calls are growing for the illegal Shottery pub to be demolished after recent reports.

Shottery: There’s been a lot of chatter lately about this pub that popped up without any proper permissions. The Cask N Tandoor, which is supposed to be a curry gastropub, was built at the Burnside Hotel, but it seems the owner, Rakesh Singh, didn’t follow the rules.
Last week, the Herald reported that the council had turned down his request to make the pub legal after it was built. It’s a bit of a mess, really. The pub is way bigger than what was originally approved. Instead of just adding a couple of bedrooms, he went and built this whole thing that’s more than double the size!
What’s even more surprising is that this new build is right in a conservation area, close to Anne Hathaway’s Cottage. The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is not happy either, claiming that Singh has even encroached on their land. It’s a real head-scratcher how the council missed this whole situation.
People are pretty upset about it. One reader, Mr. PJ Smith, said the council should be looking out for the residents. He called the pub an eyesore in a beautiful tourist spot and thinks it should be torn down. He’s not holding back, saying Singh should face some serious fines for ignoring the planning rules.
The council, however, is keeping quiet since it’s an ongoing enforcement case. Singh, on the other hand, is appealing the decision and claims he’s working on addressing the issues that led to the refusal. It’s a bit of a saga, and folks are definitely keeping an eye on how this all plays out.
