Battersea: The free light trail festival is making a comeback at Battersea Power Station this month. It runs from January 23 to February 23, and guess what? It won’t cost you a penny to check it out.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of this popular riverside event. You can look forward to eight stunning light art installations from both British and international artists, all set against the backdrop of this iconic landmark.

Among the highlights, there are four unique installations made just for Battersea. One of them, called Aurora, is designed to mimic the Northern Lights and will be located in the Art Deco Turbine Hall.

Some installations, like Bloom by Kumquat Lab, will even let you interact with them. This one is inspired by pollination and features ten glowing spheres that look like a plant.

There’s also an installation by Italian artists Luigi Console and Valentina Novembre called Never Ends. It features a horse that lights up when you hop on, making it a perfect spot for a fun Instagram pic.

If you swing by on January 23, 25, or 26, you’ll catch some live performances happening in Power Station Park and on Electric Boulevard to celebrate the festival.

After enjoying the light trail, you can explore the area, which has 150 shops, bars, and restaurants. If you’re feeling peckish, places like Sticks‘n’Sushi, Dishoom, and Brindisa Tapas are great options.

During the winter months, don’t miss the Chimney Cake pop-up in Malaysia Square, where you can grab a delicious chimney cake, a nod to the power station’s famous chimneys.

Kate Boothman-Meier, the Head of Communications & Marketing at Battersea Power Station Development Company, shared her excitement: “The Light Festival is one of our most popular events, and we’re thrilled to bring it back for a fifth year, bigger and brighter than ever.”

She also mentioned that this festival is a fantastic way to kick off an exciting year for Wandsworth, which has been named the London Borough of Culture for 2025.

The Light Festival will be open daily from 8 am to 11 pm, so there’s plenty of time to enjoy it. You can easily get there via the Battersea Power Station tube station or take a riverboat from the pier.
