Croydon: So, guess what? Free cinema tickets are coming out on Blue Monday, which is known as the most depressing day of the year. How cool is that?

This initiative, called Escapes, is backed by the British Film Institute. They really want everyone to enjoy a movie without spending a dime.

Starting January 20, they’ll be giving away tickets for a new independent film each month. The first one? The classic Point Break from the ’90s, featuring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze.

It’s going to be shown in over 140 cinemas, including places in Croydon and Sidcup. If you haven’t seen it, it’s about an FBI agent who goes undercover with surfers. Super thrilling!

And get this, every screening will have descriptive subtitles. That means more people can enjoy the film, which is fantastic.

Escapes is all about highlighting independent cinema and finding those hidden gems. They’re teaming up with big cinema chains like Picturehouse and Reel, plus some indie spots across the UK through 2025.

If you want to catch a show, just check out escapetothecinema.co.uk/tickets for all the details.
