Hexham: Megan Charlton, just 24, is making waves in her community. Originally from Haltwhistle, she now runs a life drawing class in Hexham. She started this venture after noticing a vibrant creative scene in the area.
Megan studied Fine Art at Newcastle College and graduated with first-class honors in 2023. She launched Hexham Life Drawing in January 2024, and the response has been fantastic.
She mentioned, “I realized there’s a huge creative community here, but the nearest life drawing classes were in Newcastle, which is a bit far for many.” It’s been a hit, attracting everyone from beginners to seasoned artists.
She was recently honored as Trader of the Week by Haus of Calm Skin Clinic for her efforts in providing a creative outlet for locals. The classes are held at the Garden Coffee House, where artists can enjoy snacks and drinks while they draw.
Initially, the classes were small and held at Green Bee, but the demand was so high that Megan had to find a bigger space. Now, the Garden Coffee House is the perfect spot, with a lovely atmosphere and tasty treats.
Looking ahead, Megan plans to expand her offerings. “In 2025, we’re moving to weekly workshops every Thursday evening,” she shared. There will be a mix of nude, clothed, and themed models, plus new creative techniques like ink painting and craft journaling starting in the spring.
She’s also teaming up with a wellness specialist this year, though she’s keeping the details under wraps for now. The themed classes have featured a variety of models, from dancers to circus performers.
