Washington: So, it turns out President Biden’s decision to pardon his son Hunter isn’t sitting well with everyone. Anita Dunn, a former senior aide, has some strong feelings about it.
She called the pardon an “attack on our judicial system.” That’s pretty serious, right? Dunn, who used to be one of Biden’s closest advisers, really took issue with how and when it all went down.
Hunter was recently convicted on some pretty serious charges, and Biden had previously said he wouldn’t use his power to protect him. So, Dunn’s comments are raising eyebrows.
She mentioned that it feels off for a president who campaigned on restoring the rule of law to suddenly say, “Well, maybe not this time.” It’s a bit of a contradiction, don’t you think?
Dunn made these remarks at The New York Times’ annual DealBook Summit, and it’s the first time she’s publicly criticized Biden over this issue. She’s been a loyal adviser for a long time, so this is a big deal.
She also pointed out that the White House wasn’t really involved in the pardon process. It seems like it was more of a family and legal team decision.
For context, Hunter Biden was found guilty of felony counts related to a gun purchase while he was struggling with addiction. He also pleaded guilty to tax evasion. So, this whole situation is pretty complicated.
