Aberdeenshire: A former prison officer, Russell Maitland, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison. He admitted to serious sexual offences that took place over a decade.
The sentencing happened at the High Court in Aberdeen on January 16. Maitland, who is 37, committed these offences between 2011 and 2022.
He had previously pleaded guilty to the charges in November. During the investigation, he was suspended and is no longer with the Scottish Prison Service.
Detective Constable Karen Ivancic praised the victims for their bravery in coming forward. She hopes the court’s decision brings them some justice as they move on with their lives.
