Former Preston psychiatric hospital building to become luxury home

Preston: A once-abandoned building in Preston, part of the old Whittingham Hospital, is getting a new lease on life. North Lodge, the former gatehouse, is set to be transformed into a luxury home.

This place has been sitting empty and falling apart since the hospital closed in 1995. It’s been a bit of an eyesore, but now it’s finally getting some attention. The area around it has changed a lot, with new homes popping up and mental health services being offered nearby.

The local council has given the thumbs up for the renovation. They plan to spruce up the lodge and even add an extension at the back. This new section will connect to the old building with a stylish glass and metal link, which will also serve as the main entrance.

They’re doubling the number of bedrooms from two to four, which is pretty cool. The extension will replace some old outbuildings that were falling apart and weren’t as historically important as the lodge itself.

According to the planning report, this project will really enhance the look of the property and the street. It’s great to see a long-vacant building being brought back to life.

North Lodge has seen better days. The planning application mentioned that it’s been neglected for years, with some serious decay happening inside. While the outside is mostly okay, the inside has suffered quite a bit.

There are only a few original features left, like a spiral staircase, but most of the interior has been stripped down. The plans include a cozy lounge, a bedroom, and a shower room on the ground floor, plus two more bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs.

The new extension will have an open-plan kitchen and dining area, along with a bedroom and ensuite upstairs. It’s exciting to see how this historic building will be transformed into a modern home.
