Pinchbeck: So, here’s the scoop. Mohamed Hamza, the guy who ran a hand car wash, just got hit with a five-year ban from being a company director. Why? He was caught hiring illegal workers.
During a visit in 2022, officials found two men—one from Syria and another from Egypt—working at M&H Car Wash on Enterprise Way. Not cool, right?
Hamza, who lived on Granville Road in Peterborough, was the only director since the company kicked off in February 2019. Now, he can’t be involved in any company stuff in the UK until January 2030.
Kevin Read from the Insolvency Service said Hamza broke the law by hiring folks who didn’t have the right to work here. That’s a big no-no under the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006.
He added that this kind of behavior is a serious breach of what’s expected from company directors. So, Hamza’s ban means he’s out of the game for a while.
Back in January 2022, immigration officials found a Syrian man in his 20s and an Egyptian man in his 30s working without the right papers. M&H Car Wash even got slapped with a £20,000 fine for this mess, which they never paid before going into liquidation in August 2022.
Dame Angela Eagle, the Minister for Border Security and Asylum, made it clear that anyone trying to profit from illegal work in the UK will face the music. She’s all about cracking down on this kind of thing.
Hamza’s ban officially started on Monday, January 13. Interestingly, there’s still a car wash operating at the same spot, but it’s under a different name, and Hamza isn’t listed as a director there.
