Northampton: Big news in the football world! David Cardoza, the ex-chairman of Northampton Town, has been charged with fraud. This comes after a long investigation into a £10 million loan meant for a stadium project that never got off the ground.
Cardoza, who’s 54, isn’t alone in this. He’s facing charges alongside his father and three others. They’re all linked to the redevelopment of Sixfields Stadium, and they’re set to appear in court soon.
This is a big deal because it’s the first time anyone’s been brought to court over this whole situation. The investigation, called Operation Tuckhill, looks into what happened to the £10.75 million loan from the local council for the stadium and a hotel that never happened.
The loan was given back in 2013-14, but the company in charge of the project went into administration in early 2015. It’s alleged that Cardoza and the others misled the council about how the money would be used.
The council got suspicious when they realized the money was missing and the promised new East Stand was never built. Cardoza had to sell the club after it hit financial trouble, and now Kelvin Thomas is in charge.
