Houston: Chick Harris, a well-known figure in the NFL, died on Tuesday at 79. He had a remarkable 33-year career as an assistant coach.
During his time, he coached some impressive running backs, including stars like Jerome Bettis and Arian Foster. It’s pretty cool to think about the impact he had on their careers.
Harris kicked off his coaching journey back in 1970 at Colorado State. He later moved to Long Beach State and the University of Washington, where he was part of two Rose Bowl teams.
Chuck Knox gave him his big break in Buffalo, and from there, he followed Knox to the Seahawks and Rams. He even had a stint as the Rams’ offensive coordinator for a season.
In 1995, he joined the Panthers as part of their first coaching staff, and later, he moved to the Texans in 2002. He was a staple in the coaching world until 2014.
Before coaching, Harris played as a defensive back and receiver in college. He’s even in the hall of fame at both Long Beach City College and Northern Arizona University. What a legacy!
