Washington: So, guess what? Jens Stoltenberg, the former NATO chief, is heading to Washington for Trump’s inauguration on January 20. Pretty big deal, right?
He’s about to take on a new gig as the head of the Munich Security Conference. Stoltenberg mentioned he’s all about boosting US-European ties in this role. Sounds like a solid plan!
He’ll officially step into this position after the conference meeting happening from February 14 to 16. It’s interesting because, for the first time, a non-German will lead this major conference.
The Munich Security Conference has been around since 1963, and every February, it gathers top political and defense folks to chat about global security issues.
They’re really hoping for a strong showing from Trump’s team at the conference. Traditionally, the US vice president shares the new administration’s foreign policy there. Last year, JD Vance, who was Trump’s pick for VP, showed up as a senator.
As for Germany, their ambassador in Washington, Andreas Michaelis, is set to represent the country at Trump’s inauguration. It’s standard for ambassadors to take on this role during such events.
In mid-December, Trump’s spokeswoman mentioned that several world leaders, including China’s Xi Jinping, got invites, but no more details were shared.
Oh, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is planning to visit Trump in Washington shortly after the inauguration. Should be interesting to see how that goes!
