Former Labour Activist Set for Court Over Tweet to Jewish Campaigner
A former Labour officer faces court for sending an offensive tweet to a Jewish campaigner in Brighton

He’s due in court next month for allegedly sending an offensive message through a public communication network. This all stems from a tweet directed at Fiona Sharpe from the Sussex Jewish Representative Council.
The tweet included a screenshot of a pretty inappropriate image that was originally shared by former Hove MP Ivor Caplin. It’s definitely raised some eyebrows.
According to Sussex Police, Hadfield, who’s 68 and lives on Surrenden Road, has been told to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on February 13.
He’s facing a charge under the Communications Act 2003 for sending something offensive, indecent, obscene, or menacing. It’s a big deal.
Just a bit of background: Hadfield was the secretary of the Brighton and Hove District Labour Party back in July 2016 and later became the chair of the local Momentum branch. Just a heads up, a previous version of this story mistakenly said he had already been charged, but that’s not the case until he appears in court.
