Burnley: A block of old council offices in the heart of Burnley is getting a makeover. They’re planning to turn the former offices on Nicholas Street into 18 new flats. How cool is that?

The council’s development committee is all set to give the green light for this project. It’s part of a partnership with Barnfield Investment, aiming to breathe new life into these historic buildings.

These offices, which have been empty since 2013, were once two separate buildings dating back to the late 1800s. They’ve got a unique Florentine revival style that really stands out in the town center.

Even though they’ve been maintained, they’re starting to show their age. The council thinks it’s better to have people living there than to let them sit empty, hoping someone might want to use them as offices someday.

The plan is to create 12 one-bedroom and 6 two-bedroom apartments, all available for affordable rent. This way, they can help tackle the housing shortage while keeping the building in use.

It’s a win-win situation! Not only will it provide homes, but it’ll also help preserve a piece of Burnley’s history. Sounds like a great step forward for the community!
