Glen Rock: Cindy Cancilla started Flowers by Cindy back in 2011. It began as a fun hobby, a way to give back to her community.

She’s always had a passion for flowers, arranging them since her high school days. Growing up in Shinglehouse, a small town, she loved picking wildflowers and making bouquets for her family.

In high school, she entered a bouquet in the county fair and won a ribbon. That little victory sparked her love for floral design.

Now, she’s been teaching and running her flower shop, balancing both loves in her life. “I just love flowers,” she says, reminiscing about her childhood.

After her fair success, a local florist took her under their wing, teaching her the ropes of the business. She quickly learned how to create beautiful arrangements and handle busy holiday orders.

While teaching special education, she started making custom arrangements from home. As she nears retirement from teaching, she wants to give back to the community, whether through volunteering or her business.

Flowers by Cindy has been a dream come true for her. She opened her first shop in downtown Glen Rock, and when it grew, her brother helped her find a bigger space.

In the beginning, her brother ran the shop during the day while she worked her teaching job. After school, she’d bring in fresh flowers and create arrangements for the next day’s deliveries.

Eventually, her mom joined in to help. “It was totally from scratch, just a dream of mine,” she recalls fondly.

Now, as she prepares to retire, she’s offering big discounts on holiday items. Her shop serves many local churches and businesses, providing arrangements for all sorts of occasions.

“I’ve never looked back,” she says. Flowers by Cindy has been her second love, and she’s enjoyed every moment of it.

Her shop offers a variety of fresh flowers, vases, and holiday décor, with her favorite being the Gerber Daisy.

With a team of seven, they create beautiful wreaths and centerpieces, and right now, everything is on sale as she prepares for her transition.

She loves partnering with local businesses, supporting the community she cherishes. Her goal has always been to provide floral arrangements for celebrations and moments of grief.

As she reflects on nearly 15 years in business, she’s ready to retire this spring to spend more time with her family and care for her elderly parents.

Cindy hopes to find someone who shares her passion for flowers to take over her shop, ensuring it continues to thrive with the same love she put into it.

She’s announced her retirement early to focus on creating arrangements for upcoming holidays like Valentine’s Day and Easter.
