St. Petersburg: Recently, air quality in schools has become a hot topic, especially after hurricanes like Debby and Helene hit Florida. Families are understandably worried.

Concerns about mold and mildew have been on the rise. This was especially true for one school in Pinellas County, where a teacher sadly passed away from an illness tied to Legionnaire’s disease.

Parents and staff started asking if their schools had similar air handling issues. In response, the district teamed up with the Department of Health to investigate.

For now, all classes have been moved out of the affected building until they get clear answers. It’s a tough situation, but safety comes first.
