London: This weekend, the UK is bracing for some serious weather. Up to 80mm of rain could fall in parts of England and Wales, and the Met Office has issued several amber and yellow weather warnings for Saturday and Sunday.

Things got pretty wild on Friday with winds hitting 100mph, leading to one fatality, over a million people losing power, and major travel chaos across the UK and Ireland.

On Sunday, a yellow wind warning will be in effect for south-west England and parts of Wales and Northern Ireland, with gusts expected to reach 50 to 60mph.

There’s also a yellow rain warning for southern and central England and Wales from Sunday morning to early Monday. Some areas might see heavy rain and thundery showers, with 10 to 20mm falling widely and even more in higher spots.

Flooding could affect homes and businesses, and power cuts are likely, making driving tricky. The Met Office warns there’s a small chance of fast-flowing floodwater posing a danger to life.

Looking ahead to Sunday, it might start off nice for many areas, but clouds will roll in as a low-pressure system moves in from the South West, bringing heavy rain to south-west England and Wales by mid-morning.

Winds will pick up too, but thankfully not as strong as Storm Eowyn. The southern parts of England will feel the brunt of the wind this time.

In Scotland, strong winds have already caused significant damage, and an amber wind warning is in place until Saturday morning. People are advised to secure outdoor items like bins and garden furniture.

There are also yellow snow and ice warnings in Northern Ireland and Scotland, with the potential for injuries from slips and falls. Up to 10cm of snow could fall on high ground in Scotland.

Saturday morning might start off nice for central and southern areas, with plenty of sunshine and calmer winds, but the weather will change quickly.

ScotRail has suspended all services across Scotland until at least midday Saturday. On Friday, a gust of 100mph was recorded in South Lanarkshire, and over 1,100 flights were cancelled, with major airports like Dublin and Heathrow being the hardest hit.
