Southern Ontario, Canada, Flooding, Rain, Weather Warnings

Southern Ontario: It looks like the region is in for a warm and wet end to 2024. A storm system is moving in, bringing a lot of moisture from the Gulf.

This means we can expect a good amount of rain on Sunday, with some areas possibly seeing their rainiest December day ever. Pretty wild, right?

Rainfall warnings are already in effect. With all this rain and melting snow, there’s a real chance of water pooling and some localized flooding. So, keep an eye out!

Saturday was surprisingly warm, with temperatures soaring 5 to 20 degrees above what we usually see this time of year. That warmth melted away the last bits of snow in many places.

On Sunday, a new system will bring even more moisture. While it’ll be chilly in northwestern Ontario, the Greater Toronto Area and eastern parts could hit double digits.

Expect 30-40 mm of rain to start falling in the afternoon, stretching all the way to Quebec City. The ground is still frozen, so it won’t soak up the rain well, increasing the risk of flooding.

Temperatures will stay above average for several days, with southern Ontario and Quebec seeing 5-10 degrees warmer than usual. Some northern areas might be 10-20 degrees above normal!

With all this rain, we might see some records broken for the rainiest December days in certain spots. It’s definitely a weather event to watch!
