Indiana County: A barn went up in flames on Saturday, and it was quite the scene. Firefighters got the call around 3 p.m. after folks reported the fire on Wilgus Road.

When they arrived, smoke was pouring out of the barn. The Commodore Volunteer Fire Department had their hands full, especially with the freezing weather making things tricky.

They couldn’t use a nearby pond for water because it was frozen solid. Luckily, the Clymer Volunteer Department managed to break through the ice to help out.

It was so cold that the firefighters’ gear started freezing up. Meanwhile, Montgomery Township workers were busy salting and plowing the roads to keep things safe for the crews.

Despite the tough conditions, the firefighters got the flames under control in about an hour. They stayed on the scene for a couple of hours to make sure everything was safe.

Unfortunately, the top part of the barn did collapse, but thankfully, no one was hurt. A total of nine fire companies responded, with two more on standby just in case.
