Conwy: So, here’s the scoop. The A55 bridge that got messed up six years ago is finally getting some TLC. Repairs kick off this month, and it’s about time! Traffic lights have been hanging around since a lorry hit it back in 2019, bending some support beams.

People are pretty upset about how long it’s taken to fix not just this bridge but others too. The Primrose Hill Bridge and Sea Road Bridge in Abergele have been waiting for repairs, and it’s costing a pretty penny—almost £260,000 for those traffic lights alone. That’s a lot of cash, and folks are calling it “extortionate.”

Last month, the Welsh Government finally found some funds for the Primrose Hill Bridge repairs. Traffic Wales has announced that the work will mean full overnight closures of the eastbound A55 for five weeks. Yikes!

Starting January 26 and running until March 2, the eastbound lane will be closed every night from 8 PM to 6 AM. Drivers will have to take a detour via the A547 Rhuddlan Road. It’s going to be a bit of a hassle, but safety first, right?

Traffic Wales mentioned that the bridge got pretty messed up in 2019, and they need to fix it to make sure it can handle the load again. They’re aiming to restore its full strength with these repairs.

When the work is happening, traffic will be diverted at junction 24. Drivers will go around the A547 roundabout and then get back on the A55 at junction 27. Just a little detour to keep everyone safe!

On a side note, it doesn’t look like repairs for Abergele’s Sea Road Bridge are coming anytime soon. The transport secretary said it’s a more complicated and costly job, so they’re focusing on other priorities for now. Fingers crossed they get to it soon!
