Barnet: Residents have spoken, and five community projects in Brent Cross are set to receive a total of £50,000 in funding. This comes after a vote where locals chose from seven shortlisted projects. It’s great to see the community getting involved!

The Brent Cross Town Community Fund is all about supporting initiatives that help with skills development and education. This year marks its sixth round, and it’s clear that the community is passionate about making a difference.

The winning projects include ‘Bright Futures for Young People’ by Pro Touch, which focuses on sports and community programs for youth. Then there’s ‘Art Cafe,’ helping asylum seekers find their footing in the job market. It’s heartwarming to see such diverse initiatives being recognized.

Another winner is Barnet Mencap, which supports individuals with learning disabilities in finding jobs. Plus, ‘The Lab Records’ aims to educate young people at risk of violence, while ‘Sustainable Barnet’ connects young folks with STEM professionals to tackle climate change issues.

Pro Touch, a first-time applicant, is thrilled to receive nearly £10,000. They’re already active in ten London boroughs, including Barnet, where they run programs at local schools. Their Holiday and Active Food program is a hit, and they’re looking to expand their services.

Ash Rahman, the co-founder, shared exciting plans to offer more programs during term time. They want to create a space in the community center for activities twice a week, which sounds fantastic!

They’re also keen on providing training and resources for older kids, helping them explore their passions, whether it’s sports, gaming, or arts. It’s all about giving them the tools to succeed.

Anne Clarke from Barnet Council expressed her delight at the project selections, noting the impressive number of applications received. It’s clear that the community is eager to support initiatives that focus on skills and employment.

In a world where local news is becoming scarce, supporting independent outlets is crucial. They help keep the community informed and engaged, so consider lending a hand if you can!
