Newfoundland: A big storm is on its way to Atlantic Canada this weekend. It’s bringing strong winds, heavy snow, and even some coastal flooding.
Folks are being told to prepare. Secure anything loose outside and try to avoid traveling if you can during the worst of it.
The storm will be mostly out at sea on Saturday but will pick up speed as it gets closer to Newfoundland and Labrador. Expect strong winds to start blowing across the Avalon Peninsula, with heavy snow starting to fall.
Snowfall could hit between 10 to 30 centimeters before it changes to rain. So, it’s going to be a messy day!
As the storm rolls in, gusts could reach over 110 km/h along the east and north-facing shores. That’s pretty intense and could cause some damage. But don’t worry, the winds should calm down a lot overnight as the storm passes.
While the Avalon Peninsula will feel the strongest winds, Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island will also get hit, though not as hard. The snow will switch to rain across the island, but as the storm weakens, snow might come back.
