Worcester: Junction 6 Limited has officially submitted plans for Sixways Stadium to the Wychavon District Council. They’re looking to bring in a new hotel, a multi-storey car park, and even a drive-thru. Sounds pretty cool, right?
They’ve got some neat ideas for the area. Rendered images show a transformed space with new sports, entertainment, and health facilities. It’s like a whole new vibe for the stadium!
This submission comes just before Worcester Warriors aim to rejoin the English Rugby system in a new Tier 2 competition. Exciting times ahead!
One of the big highlights is the redevelopment of the North Stand. They plan to split it into terraces, which should make for a better experience for fans. Plus, there will be different levels of hospitality and a stadium room for banquets.
And wait until you see the birdseye view at night! They’re adding a unique rooftop called the Watch Tower, giving a fresh perspective of the pitch and the countryside.
Next to the North Stand, they’re planning a 130-bed hotel with a lovely exterior featuring trees and seating. It’s all about making the area inviting.
They’re also looking to create an adaptable events space that could become a national hub for esports. With video game competitions on the rise, this could be a game-changer!
There’s more! They’re hoping to build a medical and sports rehabilitation center, which will cater to both the public and professional athletes. It’ll have all the bells and whistles, including MRI and CT scanners.
Plus, it’ll serve as a research facility for the University of Worcester. And let’s not forget the 6.5-storey car park for 550 cars!
Stephen Vaughan, the strategy director for Worcester Warriors, expressed excitement about these plans. He mentioned how they’re setting the stage for a sustainable future for the club and its supporters.
They’re also planning a drive-thru, a padel facility, and an industrial estate. It’s all about creating a vibrant community space.
Environmental landscaping is a big focus too, with plans for an additional pitch, a wildlife trail, and a community orchard around the stadium.
If you want to check out the planning application, you can find it on the Wychavon District Council planning portal using the reference W/24/02613/OUT. Just a heads up, public consultation wraps up on February 6, 2025.
