Chelsea: It’s a bit of a bummer, but Partridges, that lovely family-run food deli, is shutting down after more than 50 years in the neighborhood. They’ll close up shop on February 2.
But don’t worry! Their other store on Gloucester Road in Kensington will keep going strong, and they’re even planning to open a new spot in autumn 2025.
They haven’t shared why they’re closing the Chelsea location, which is a bit of a mystery. Partridges was started by Sir Richard Shepherd back in 1972, and it’s been a go-to for fine foods ever since.
Originally, it was on Sloane Street, and they’ve always had that catchy slogan, “Good things for the larder.” They were super convenient too, with long hours and even a free bike delivery service!
John Shepherd, Sir Richard’s brother, took over in 1981 and has been running the show ever since. He expressed gratitude to the loyal Chelsea customers and the hardworking staff who made it all happen.
John mentioned how sad they are to leave after 53 amazing years but are excited about the future. They’re aiming for smaller, more sustainable shops across London.
They’ve also hit some impressive milestones, like achieving carbon neutrality and getting a Royal Warrant from King Charles. Plus, they’ve supported tons of local charities, raising over £30,000 for the Children’s Surgery Foundation.
John hopes this isn’t a final goodbye and encourages loyal customers to visit them at the Gloucester Road store. It’s been a great ride for Partridges, and they’re looking forward to what’s next!
