Finding protection for Drake Maye: Top tackles set to hit free agency

Boston: The New England Patriots have a lot on their plate this offseason. They need to fix several key areas, but the offensive tackle position is at the top of the list.

Keeping their young quarterback, Drake Maye, safe is super important. Sure, they want to improve the wide receiver group, but if Maye can’t get the ball to them, what’s the point? They can’t go into the 2025 season with the same old offensive line problems that plagued Maye’s rookie year.

Luckily, the Patriots have some exciting options to strengthen their offensive line next spring. They might have a top-five draft pick, which is great, but free agency could be a bit tricky. The best tackles usually get signed before they even hit the market.

Still, here are some top offensive tackles who could be free agents in 2025 that the Patriots should keep an eye on:

First up is Ronnie Stanley from the Baltimore Ravens. At 31, he’s had a solid season and earned Pro Bowl honors in the past. He’s looking at a big payday if he hits free agency.

Then there’s Alaric Jackson, just 27, who plays for the Los Angeles Rams. He’s likely to get an extension, but if he doesn’t, he’ll be a hot commodity.

Tyron Smith, 34, is another name to consider. He’s had injury issues, but if he can stay healthy, he’d be a fantastic addition to the team.

Garett Bolles, 33, could be the top tackle available if the Denver Broncos don’t extend him. He’s been a standout since 2017, and the Patriots should jump at the chance if he’s available.
