Bury: A main road is closed after heavy rain caused serious flooding on New Year’s Day. Pilsworth Road, near the M66, is completely submerged.
This situation follows multiple flood warnings across Greater Manchester, with a ‘major incident’ declared. The M66 is a key route, so this closure is likely to cause traffic jams.
Yesterday’s relentless rain led to flooding in several areas, including Bolton and Westhoughton. Emergency services are on the scene, working with the Environment Agency to manage the situation.
They’ve even brought in mountain rescue teams to help with transport and assist those in need. Reports of damage and stranded vehicles are still coming in.
Jo Platt, the MP for Leigh and Atherton, is keeping in touch with agencies to ensure support for those affected by the flooding. It’s a tough start to the new year for many.
