Rhondda Fach: Exciting news! The final phase of a new walking and cycling route is on the verge of getting the green light. This project aims to make it easier for folks to get around on foot or by bike.

The last stretch of the Rhondda Fach Active Travel Route is set to be discussed by the planning committee soon. It’ll connect the end of the previous phase to the Llanwonno Road bridge in Stanleytown, covering about a kilometer.

Most of this route is pretty flat, which is great for everyone. They plan to upgrade it with a solid surface, making it more user-friendly. Some repairs will also be done to keep it in good shape.

There are plans to improve two community links too. One will connect the Rhondda Fach Leisure Centre to the route, while the other will link the Tylorstown Surgery car park to the railway path. Both will see some regrading and bridge upgrades.

Once everything is finished, this route will stretch around 7 kilometers, linking the old Maerdy Colliery site to Pontygwaith. It’ll be a fantastic way for people to access schools and leisure spots.

Planning officers are all for it, saying it’ll provide safe access for everyone year-round. Plus, it won’t harm the local landscape or bother nearby residents. And guess what? No one has objected to the plans!
