Scarborough: A teenager named Matthew Heap has been sentenced for a shocking attack where he used a shovel to hit a man. It all happened last August, and it was pretty brutal.
Heap went after the victim, striking him multiple times on the head and shoulder. The poor guy ended up with some serious injuries, including cuts and a fractured shoulder. It was a nightmare.
After the attack, Heap took off but was caught later by the police. They found the shovel he used hidden in some bushes nearby. Turns out, his DNA was on the handle, and the victim’s DNA was on the shovel. Talk about a clear connection!
When they arrested him, they also found 30 wraps of heroin and a burner phone on him. In court, Heap admitted to wounding with intent and possession of Class A drugs. He got six years in a Young Offender Institution.
Detective Constable Sam Rivers from North Yorkshire Police said this case was tough because Heap was a well-known figure in the area. Some witnesses were scared to come forward, but thanks to the victim’s bravery, justice was served.
Now, the residents of Barrowcliff can breathe a little easier knowing this violent guy is off the streets. The police are serious about tackling violent crime and will keep working hard to bring offenders like Heap to justice.
