Darlington: A father, Simon Vickers, is in court after his 14-year-old daughter, Scarlett, died from a stab wound. He says they were just having fun in the kitchen while making dinner.
Vickers, 50, denies both murder and manslaughter. He claims they were “mucking about” and throwing things at each other when the tragic accident happened.
After the incident, he told police he was cooking when suddenly there was blood everywhere. He seemed genuinely shocked by what had occurred.
His lawyer described Scarlett as a beloved only child, emphasizing that Vickers never intended to hurt her. He said they were just playing around when the knife accidentally came into play.
The prosecution, however, argues that this wasn’t just a simple accident. They pointed out that Scarlett suffered a serious stab wound that damaged her heart.
Forensic evidence suggested that the knife was used in a stabbing motion, not thrown. Scarlett’s mother was in the kitchen and tried to save her as she bled out.
Witnesses described the parents as visibly upset, both covered in blood. Vickers claimed he didn’t realize he had the knife while cooking.
Sadly, paramedics pronounced Scarlett dead about an hour after they arrived. A pathologist confirmed that the knife had caused severe damage, leading to her quick death.
The trial is set to continue on Thursday, and it’s a heartbreaking situation for everyone involved.
