Teignmouth: So, you know that Rolex watch that was part of a really infamous murder case? Well, it turns out its fate has finally been revealed after almost three decades. Crazy, right?

This luxury watch was the only clue in the murder of Ronald Platt, a former soldier found dead in a fishing net back in July 1996. The watch was still on his wrist, and it had been underwater for over a week!

When the police were struggling to crack the case, they gave the watch a little shake in the mortuary, and guess what? The self-winding mechanism kicked back to life! This helped them figure out when Ronald died and even led them to his killer, a Canadian businessman named Albert White.

White was sentenced to life in prison in 1998 and is still locked up in Canada. But the Rolex itself went missing for years, and no one knew what happened to it.

Recently, a Freedom of Information request revealed that Ronald’s family got the watch back in 2002. But where it is now? No one knows!

It’s wild how this whole thing unfolded. Albert Walker, who was using the name David Davis, was actually Ronald’s friend and business partner. He murdered Ronald to cover up his identity theft scheme.

Walker had a pretty shady past, having defrauded a bunch of people in Canada before moving to the UK. He even created a fake life here, living with his daughter while pretending to be a businessman.

When Ronald wanted to return to Canada, Walker took advantage of him, stealing his identity and eventually luring him out for a fishing trip. That’s when he knocked Ronald out and tossed him into the sea with an anchor.

It took a lot of detective work to piece everything together, but the Rolex and the anchor were key pieces of evidence. The watch helped pinpoint the time of death, and the anchor linked Walker to the crime scene.

Now, Walker is 78 and still in prison, but the mystery of the Rolex continues. It’s a wild story that shows how one piece of evidence can change everything.
