Melbourne: A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Kalkallo when a fireworks explosion claimed the life of a 19-year-old. The footage is truly shocking, and police are calling the scene “extremely distressing.”

Emergency services rushed to the scene around 9:10 PM after reports of the explosion. Sadly, the young man suffered critical injuries when the fireworks went off right in his face.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. It seems he was with a friend lighting fireworks near a construction site when the tragedy struck.

The CCTV footage shows the moment the fireworks exploded, lighting up the night sky with bright red sparks and a deafening bang that echoed through the neighborhood.

Neighbors were horrified to learn someone had died. One resident, Pam Kumar, expressed disbelief, saying, “I don’t know where they’d find these crackers that make such a big explosion that could kill someone.”

Authorities described the incident as “horrendous.” Some residents mentioned they had heard similar loud noises in the days leading up to this event, suspecting people accessed the construction site through a fallen fence.

Victoria Police Acting Sergeant Fiona Parvin expressed her condolences to the grieving family, noting that Christmas Day would never be the same for them. She also highlighted the illegal sale of fireworks on social media and urged the public to report any such activities.

In Victoria, fireworks are classified as explosives and can only be used by licensed professionals. “Fireworks should not be handled by the public,” she warned, emphasizing their volatility and the need for professional handling.
