Chicago: Wow, what a wild Week 16 for fantasy football! Jalen Hurts got hurt early, and only five defenses scored in double digits. It was a strange week, with some defenses scoring just seven points making it into the top 10. Atlanta, Cincinnati, and Green Bay were the top three defenses, but I underestimated Atlanta by ranking them 9th. Drew Lock really helped them rack up those fantasy points.
Now, as we head into the finals, motivation is key. We can’t predict how teams will perform with injuries and playoff implications, but teams fighting for a playoff spot usually give their best effort. So, I’ll lean towards those teams in close rankings.
Don’t forget to catch episodes of Fantasy Football Happy Hour with Matthew Berry and the Rotoworld Football Show for all the latest updates, waiver wire tips, and start/sit advice.
Each week, I’ll share my rankings and the reasoning behind them. Tier One will feature my top picks, Tier Two will include strong options, and Tier Three will have borderline top-10 plays. Tier Four will be for deep-league targets, while Tier Five will be defenses to avoid.
I’ll also keep track of how many top-10 defenses I correctly predicted, so we can see how accurate my Best Overall Defense rankings are.
Looking at the Seahawks, they’ve averaged 8.3 fantasy points per game over the last six weeks. They’re in a must-win situation against the Bears, who have struggled offensively and lost key players to injuries. The Colts had a rough Week 16, but they’re still in the playoff hunt and should bounce back against a Giants team that’s been struggling.
The Dolphins haven’t been great lately, but they face a Browns offense that’s been generous to opposing defenses. Miami still has a shot at the playoffs, so they’ll be motivated to perform.
As for the Chargers, they’ve been inconsistent, but they’re facing a Patriots team that’s been giving up points to defenses. It feels like a safe bet to play them this week.
The Bills are tricky to rank since they might rest players, but they still have a solid defense. The Chiefs’ defense has been performing well, and they could surprise against the Steelers, who are struggling on offense.
The Eagles and Cowboys are both solid options, but if Hurts is out, the Cowboys could have the edge. The Broncos have a tough matchup, but they’ve been performing well lately, so they might surprise against the Bengals.
Overall, it’s all about motivation and matchups as we head into the finals. Keep an eye on injuries and team needs to make the best decisions for your fantasy lineup.
