Philadelphia: Last week, we touched on some early risers and fallers in the dynasty league. I skipped over rookies then, so let’s dive into them now. There are ten rookies who have really stepped up their game, boosting their dynasty value since the preseason. We won’t dwell too much on those who are struggling, especially since this rookie class was seen as a bit weaker.
It’s easy to get hyped about rookies who are putting up big numbers, but honestly, that hasn’t been the case this season. Some of these rookies are obvious choices, but even a few standout moments can earn them a spot on this list. I’m not saying you should rush to trade for all of them, just giving credit where it’s due about two months into their rookie seasons.
Jared McCain from Philadelphia has been one of the top rookies this season. Unfortunately, he’s out indefinitely with a torn meniscus. Before the injury, he was leading all rookies in points and three-pointers, averaging 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. Even though he might miss out on awards this year, he’s definitely a key player for the 76ers moving forward.
Then there’s Donovan Clingan from Portland. He hasn’t had a huge role yet, mainly due to an MCL sprain that kept him out for a bit. But when he’s on the court, he’s been impressive, averaging eight points and ten rebounds in his starts. He’s got some competition for minutes, but he’s got the potential to be a dominant player in fantasy basketball.
Stephon Castle from San Antonio has also been a standout rookie. He’s averaging 11.7 points and 3.9 assists, though his shooting hasn’t been great. As the Spurs get healthier, his role might shrink a bit, but he’s shown he’ll be a big part of their future.
Over in Washington, Carlton Carrington has had some ups and downs. His numbers dipped when Malcolm Brogdon was healthy, but he’s been solid when given the chance, averaging 9.0 points and 4.4 rebounds. With injuries on the team, he should get more opportunities to shine.
Yves Missi from New Orleans has arguably been the best rookie so far. He’s been filling in nicely at center, averaging 9.5 points and 9.1 rebounds. The Pelicans have had a rough season, but he’s been a bright spot.
Kyshawn George, also from Washington, has surprised me a bit. He’s shown flashes of talent, averaging 12.3 points and 5.3 rebounds. I wasn’t too high on him before, but he’s been fun to watch, especially as a starter.
Jonathan Mogbo from Toronto has played a decent role this season. He’s had some good games, including a 17-point performance against the Thunder. He’s stepping up while Scottie Barnes is out, which is great for his development.
Jaylen Wells from Memphis has been a pleasant surprise, starting almost every game. He’s averaging 11.4 points and has shown he can be a starting-caliber player, which is impressive for a second-round pick.
Ajay Mitchell from Oklahoma City has been getting some extra minutes during blowouts, but he’s proving he can contribute. He’s scored in double figures several times, which is promising for his future.
Lastly, Pelle Larsson from Miami has carved out a nice role off the bench. He’s had some solid performances, including a career-high in assists. He’s not a superstar yet, but he’s been a reliable player for a playoff team.
