Prestwich: A tragic story has emerged about a young woman named Kimberley McAssey. Her family is heartbroken after she died in February 2021, and they’re now pushing for a law change. They want to make it illegal to delay calling emergency services in such situations.
Kimberley was found dead in her boyfriend Ryan Sheridan’s flat. They had been drinking and using drugs together. After realizing she was unresponsive, Ryan waited a shocking 30 hours before his mother finally called the police. This delay has left Kimberley’s family devastated.
The coroner couldn’t determine the cause of Kimberley’s death because of the delay in calling for help. Now, her family is advocating for ‘Kimberley’s Law’ to prevent similar situations from happening again. They’ve already gathered over 1,700 signatures for their petition.
Kimberley’s cousin, Rea Swindells, expressed their hope that this law could save other families from the pain they’re experiencing. They believe that if emergency services had been contacted sooner, the cause of Kimberley’s death could have been established.
Ryan, who was on bail for assault at the time, later explained his delay by saying he panicked and feared being arrested. The coroner noted that his decision to wait was a conscious one, showing a lack of regard for Kimberley’s life.
Kimberley was a beloved mother and sister, and her family remembers her as someone who brought joy to their lives. Her mother, Karrie, shared a haunting memory from the undertaker, who had never seen anyone so decomposed in his 30 years of work.
The family is determined to seek justice and ensure that no one else has to endure such a heartbreaking loss due to someone’s negligence.
