Malvern: The family of John Reddington is seeking an apology from the police. They feel their concerns were ignored while he was missing for weeks.

John, 57, was found dead in his caravan. His family had to push police to search for him. They say they were dismissed despite sharing his mental health and alcohol issues.

John’s body was discovered in Worcestershire after his family contacted the police multiple times. They felt the police didn’t take their worries seriously.

John lived in a campervan after a breakup. His family knew he was safe from his Facebook posts. But when he stopped contacting them, they grew worried.

They reached out to Police Scotland in mid-November. The response was that he might just want to be alone. This didn’t sit well with them.

Things escalated when John missed his sister’s birthday. They contacted West Mercia Police, but were told to check hospitals instead.

Eventually, they learned his campervan was parked in Malvern. They had to argue with police to get them to check it out.

John’s body was found on December 19, but it took until January 9 to confirm his identity. His family felt the police’s attitude was unacceptable.

Gary Connor, John’s nephew, expressed frustration. He felt the police blamed the family for not keeping in touch with John.

Labour MP Richard Baker is helping the family seek answers from the police. He believes the family deserves better treatment and answers.

West Mercia Police acknowledged receiving a complaint about their handling of the case. They stated there were no suspicious circumstances around John’s death.

Police Scotland said the matter is for West Mercia Police to address.
