Family of Homestead Truck Driver Killed in FHP Chase Files Lawsuit
The family of a truck driver killed in a police chase is suing the Florida Highway Patrol for wrongful death, seeking justice for their loss
Homestead, Florida, FHP, Zachary Fink, Arsenio Más, Michael Anthony Addison
This all went down back in February when a high-speed chase led to a collision on I-95. The driver being pursued, Michael Anthony Addison, made a dangerous U-turn, causing chaos. Sadly, Más was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and his semi-truck collided with Fink’s vehicle.
Más’s son, Reynier Rodriguez, filed the lawsuit on behalf of himself and his siblings. They believe FHP and Trooper Fink are responsible for their father’s death. The lawsuit claims Fink acted recklessly while chasing Addison, putting everyone in danger.
FHP hasn’t commented yet, but the lawsuit points out that Fink ignored safety protocols. It alleges he made a reckless maneuver that led to the crash, which could have been avoided. The family feels strongly that FHP should have known better during the pursuit.
Yeisel Más Dominguez, one of Más’s daughters, expressed her anger, saying the chase should have been handled differently. The family’s attorney, Oliver Silva, mentioned that FHP has been slow to respond to their settlement requests, which is frustrating.
Under Florida law, the family can only claim a maximum of $300,000 from a state agency, which they feel is inadequate for such a tragic loss. The legal process could take a while, and if they win, the payout will be split among the siblings.
Más’s children are scattered between South Florida and Cuba, where their father immigrated from. As they wait for the case to unfold, there’s a sense of uncertainty about whether they’ll ever see compensation for their loss.
Meanwhile, Addison is facing serious charges, including second-degree murder, and is currently in jail awaiting his next court date. The family is left hoping for justice while dealing with the aftermath of this heartbreaking situation.
