Edinburgh: The family of Ross Hanratty has won a six-figure compensation. Ross, a 28-year-old dad, tragically died after falling through a roof. This happened just weeks into his new job.
He fell 30 feet while cleaning an industrial unit. Ross wasn’t warned that the roof was fragile. Because of this, he left his safety harness unattached.
This accident took away a father from his two young kids, a five-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son. Ross’s family settled out of court, claiming his employer, Ipsum Drainage, ignored safety rules.
His mother, Marion, shared how hard it has been for the family. She said the incident has caused them pain and trauma for over two years. Now, they finally have answers about what happened that day.
Ross, from Paisley, died in October 2022 at Seafield Industrial Estate in Edinburgh. His family’s lawyers argued that the company didn’t do a proper risk assessment or provide adequate training.
Ipsum admitted some responsibility but claimed Ross was partly to blame for the accident. Sarah Douglas, the family’s lawyer, said this tragedy could have been avoided.
There’s still an ongoing investigation, and Ipsum may face prosecution for Ross’s death. The company has been contacted for a comment.
