Trento: The family of a missing hiker is not giving up hope. Aziz Ziriat, 36, went missing with his friend Samuel Harris in the Italian Dolomites on New Year’s Day. Sadly, Harris’s body has been found, but Ziriat is still unaccounted for.
They were last heard from on January 1, when their phones either died or lost signal after sending messages home. The search began when they missed their flight back on January 6, sparking concern among their loved ones.
Initially, the search faced challenges due to heavy snowfall and poor visibility. Rescue teams followed the last known phone signals, which led them to Harris’s body. Both families have been kept informed throughout the ordeal.
Aziz and Samuel were experienced hikers, planning to trek between mountain huts. Rebecca Dimmock, Aziz’s girlfriend, shared that they were enjoying their hike, even having some red wine at a hut before things went dark.
She expressed her heartbreak on a morning show, saying the uncertainty is the hardest part. Family and friends have traveled to Italy to assist in the search efforts, and Crystal Palace FC has reached out for information, as Aziz works for their charity.
After the tragic news about Harris, the charity expressed their sorrow and extended condolences to his family. Meanwhile, support is being provided to the families by psychologists in Italy.
