Leicestershire: A family is really worried about their home. They say their lives are at risk because of a leaking roof that could collapse any moment. Jolanta Rudnicka and her husband Dariusz are dealing with not just the roof issue but also mould in their flat.
They own their flat on Queens Drive in Enderby, but the roof belongs to East Midlands Housing Association (EMH). The couple claims the ceiling is now on the verge of collapsing due to the leaks.
Mrs. Rudnicka expressed her fears, saying, “This is endangering our lives because at any moment the ceiling could fall down because it is all wet.”
Since December 2023, they’ve been reaching out to EMH about the leaks, but nothing has been done. They’ve sent letters and even included photos of the damage, but all they get in return is silence.
EMH did send someone to check it out, and they found that the roof needs replacing. They also mentioned that the ceiling beams could collapse since they’re constantly wet and rotting. But when the Rudnickas asked for repairs, they were told it was too costly.
In early January 2024, EMH said they’d pass the request to the property services team. But when the family waited for a visit, no one showed up. Mrs. Rudnicka wrote to EMH again, explaining how the leaks were damaging their home and causing mould to grow.
By March, she was fed up and emailed EMH about her “deep dissatisfaction.” She pointed out that the leaks had been ongoing for four months, leading to serious mould issues that posed health risks.
Despite all her efforts, she felt ignored. She sent more letters in the following months, but the situation remained unchanged. In response, EMH’s group director acknowledged the delays and said they were working on it. They promised to treat the mould and start repairs soon.
It’s a tough situation for the Rudnickas, and they just want their home to be safe again.
