The local traders’ group, Inverness BID, is sounding the alarm. They’ve found some pretty convincing counterfeit notes floating around. While these fakes have some flaws, they can easily fool someone who’s not paying close attention.
People are being asked to keep their eyes peeled when handling cash. A spokesperson from Inverness BID said businesses should be extra careful. They mentioned that these fake notes look a lot like the real deal but are missing some important security features.
The serial number on these fakes is BB81 275037, and they don’t have the hologram that changes when you tilt the note. So, if you spot anything suspicious, don’t hesitate to report it to the police.
To help out, both shoppers and shopkeepers are encouraged to check the security features on the new polymer notes. If you want more info, the Bank of England’s website has got you covered.
Police Scotland is also looking into the situation, so let’s hope they get it sorted soon.
