Eyesore Buildings Next to Popular Kent Cafe Set for Demolition and Replacement

These commercial units have been looking pretty shabby for years. They’ve been in such bad shape that they were practically useless. But soon, they’ll be replaced with something fresh and new.
David Morgan, the site owner, kicked off this process by asking the Folkestone and Hythe District Council for permission last summer. He wanted to demolish the old buildings and put up new ones in their place.
These buildings have been around since the late ’80s and were used for light industrial purposes. But after 30 years, they’ve really fallen apart. One building even had to be partially taken down because its roof was sagging too much.
At a recent planning meeting, the council discussed the proposal. Most councillors were on board with the idea, but there were some concerns about the impact on the local area.
Cllr Jenny Hollingsbee, who represents the area, expressed worries about the potential for increased lorry traffic, especially with the new Otterpool Park development planned nearby. But officials assured her that there are signs directing lorries away from the village.
The new units will be designed to be self-contained, with shared facilities like a toilet and kitchenette. This should keep things manageable for the few people expected to use them.
In the end, the planning committee gave the green light for the project. It’s a step forward for Sellindge, and many locals are looking forward to seeing the changes.
