Melbourne: Aussies in several states are gearing up for some serious heat this Christmas and Boxing Day. The forecast shows temperatures could hit between 30°C and 40°C, which is pretty wild.
The Bureau of Meteorology is saying we might break some heat records. It could be the hottest Boxing Day ever for the big cricket match, which is a big deal around here.
Fire danger ratings are climbing too. On Christmas Day, they’ll be high, and by Boxing Day, we’re looking at extreme levels in many areas. Places like Mallee and Wimmera are on high alert.
But it’s not all bad news; East Gippsland is getting a bit of a break with just a high rating. Still, it’s a serious situation, especially with the bushfires burning through nearly 44,000 hectares in the Grampians.
South Australia isn’t escaping either, with a scorching 37°C expected on Christmas Day. They’re also facing extreme fire danger in several regions.
Fire officials are urging everyone to stay alert. The chief fire officer is really stressing the importance of safety, saying they want everyone to make it through this alive.
Residents in some areas have been told it’s not safe to return home yet. There are relief centers set up for those affected, and a community meeting is happening soon to keep everyone updated.
So, if you’re in the area, keep an eye on the weather and stay safe out there!
