Igatpuri: So, guess what? Express trains in Maharashtra are going to skip those steep Igatpuri and Khandala Ghats. Officials say it’s all about safety and efficiency.
They’re putting in these cool Speed Sensing Devices in the trains. Basically, these gadgets will help control the speed, making sure it doesn’t go over the limit.
Rajneesh Goyal, the outgoing Divisional Railway Manager, explained that trains used to stop in the Ghats because of safety concerns. When trains go downhill with lots of passengers, it can get tricky.
To tackle this, they’ve had to make stops at various points. But with these new devices, if a train goes too fast, it’ll just stop automatically. No more unnecessary halts!
Goyal mentioned that they waste about 10 to 15 minutes just sitting around in the Ghats. Once this system is in place, trains can keep moving, saving time and helping suburban railways stay on schedule.
